The park of Lapalisse of more than 3 rectares is dominated by Mr. De La Palice's Castle. It was designed in 1936 by the landscape gardener and horticultural engineer Faure Laurent. The park was made around a pavilion to which all the paths converge. It is made of a landscape garden and a formal garden, which are separated by a cascade of ornamental lakes. Decided by Napoleon III within the works of embellishment, the creation of the park of the same name was made necessary because of the growing importance of the Thermal Baths in Vichy. It was laid out between 1862 and 1865 on a part of the Allier river bed. It is separated from the main current by a dyke to prevent the very frequent floods of the river. This 13 hectares park of english inspiration bordered by Imperial Suite Chalets has got an eclectic mixture of local an exotic plants. At the beginning of the 20th century, the creation of the "parc du Soleil" and of the "parc des Bourins" brought the total superficy of the Allier parks to 23 hectares. Proprety of the State and listed at the Inventory of Historical Monuments, the parks all together have at the present time 2 000 trees of 83

The Botanical Garden of the Col de Saverne was created in 1931 by a group of local naturalists from the Saverne area - among vhom Emile Walter (1873-1953). This garden of 2,3 hectares is situated in a loop formed by the RN 4 as in rises to the Col de Saverne, and is sited on the borders of the Vosges mountains on sandstone (principal conglomerate) with traces of limestone. Its continental climate - annual mean rainfall 800-900 mm is tempered by the forest-clad environnement. The plants are in their natural surroundings, and space apart in plots. A large number of species rare to the Alsace and the Vosges grow in the Botanical Garden.
