The Botanical Garden of the Col de Saverne was created in 1931 by a group of local naturalists from the Saverne area - among vhom Emile Walter (1873-1953). This garden of 2,3 hectares is situated in a loop formed by the RN 4 as in rises to the Col de Saverne, and is sited on the borders of the Vosges mountains on sandstone (principal conglomerate) with traces of limestone.
