Yesterday, one of our male members from Los Angeles visited Japan to meet with one of MJL’s female members whom he has been corresponding with. It was his first experience visiting Japan, so he was very excited since everything was new for him. He was so surprised when he took a taxi to the meeting place from his hotel and he gave the taxi driver a tip, but the driver politely refused his tip. In Japan, there is no tip custom, so it is not necessary to tip taxi drivers, hotel maids, or waitresses at restaurants. In Japan, good service is not based on money. Japanese people are taught that customers should be treated as a god. Japanese people are satisfied when customers are satisfied with their service. You may think the taxi driver should have received a tip if the customer wanted to pay. How honest Japanese people are! He was a great mentor, a caring friend, a warm person, and a loving father of my husband. However, since he gave his power of attorney to his girlfriend, who is a married woman, and she kept him largely away from us these last 5 years. And so, when we visited him at the senior center 5 days before he passed away, she did not let us to see him. When we tried to visit him, she locked the door, and screamed “Go away or I will call the police”, and she did. We asked his social worker and manager of the senior center, and his friends for help, but everyone listened to this woman who had the power of attorney. It was very sad that nobody would help us to see him before he died. We are his family and my husband is his only son. There does not appear to be any family rights in the US. I received a message from one of our male clients. His wife is ready to move to the US, so he is going to Japan to pick her up. They will spend Christmas in her hometown with her family. Congratulations! We are happy for them. He used to take part in our Meetup event in Baltimore. I feel like he is our friend. I am looking forward to meeting with them in the US again. Watashi no Naoko, How are you? We are good here and all the paper work for the Marriage Visa is completed. I am just waiting for it to arrive here from Japan so I can take it to the Lawyer and he can send it in to Homeland Security this December before I leave for Japan. Approval is taking between 3 and 6 months and the ones from Japan have been averaging a 3 month approval. I leave the 13th of December, arrive in Tokyo the 14th. I will spend 2 days there, arrive in Kyoto leave for KYUSHU. I will stay at S san's house, get to drive her car, walk her dog and we will then go to Okinawa for 3 nights before we return t

When I first moved to the US, I was so surprised to see that people always use credit cards for everyday purchases, even for small items like a cup of coffee, instead of cash. Also, I was shocked to learn that almost everyone needs a credit card in order to build credit. I remember when I was in my 20's, some of the major credit card companies offered their services in Japan. Out of curiosity, I soon enrolled in a credit card. And then my father scolded me for having a credit card since he believed that having a credit card was a bad custom. He said that using a credit card meant making debt which was shameful. I understood his point, so I tried not to use my credit card since I was a student and I only had a part time job at that time. Even today, many traditional minded Japanese feel that relying on credit cards is a bad idea. With credit card you can shop even though you don't have any money. My father explained that the money you feel you have with your credit card is not exact
