2.7 – WHAT ARE THEY LEARNING?
2010-03-10 07:54:41
Excerpt From: Chapter 2 – Ethics, Economics, and Religion – Bad Role Models and False Gods The bad role models that our society too often presents to these students are just one of many problems that inhibit the development of ethical fitness. The larger problem with ethics in our culture, however, is that too many of us [...]
THE SECOND CIVIL WAR
2010-03-05 12:19:21
Maybe it’s time for a robust third party. Not the Tea-ers, but a moderate, middle party—a Bernie Sanders party that cares about solutions and understands the value of compromise and the importance of progress on resolving our massive issues. Maybe it’s time for term limits. Maybe it’s time for stricter campaign rules that allow the people to participate rather than just the moneyed. Maybe all of the above!
STAGES OF FAITH
2010-03-03 07:31:31
There are stages to growth. We know that. We know that, but we don’t work on it hard enough. The unique trait OF our human nature is our ability to choose, and the most important choice we have to make is the choice to evolve, to grow, to continue to develop. And this choice applies to [...]
PEOPLE WATCHING FOR THE SOUL
2010-03-01 13:35:54
For good end to be achieved, we must choose based on the dictates of our soul, the repository of our innermost core values and our spirit. And then, we become healthy, happy, ethical giants, if our soul is healthy, and if we are not “hollow to the core.”
RUMI & TREASURES
2010-02-28 10:09:28
Treasures fall in your lap. Not from the sky. Not in the form of golden nuggets. Not in the form of a notice that you’ve won the lottery. The treasures I’m talking about are more subtle, and more precious. And, sadly, if we’re too tightly wrapped in our cocoons we won’t even notice their effort to [...]
55411 – NORTH MINNEAPOLIS
2010-02-27 10:52:51
There’s something good happening in North Minneapolis. The zip code I’m talking about is 55411. That’s pretty close to my zip code of 55446. In fact, it’s just 6/100ths of one percent different. Yet, it’s worlds apart. 55446 is in Plymouth, selected in 2008 as one of America’s best places to live. 55411 not many years back was the center of what was called Murderapolis.
HUMAN NATURE, POEMS, & SWANS
2010-02-24 16:24:37
One thing does lead to another. This weekend, for example, two things happened that led me to a third. The first thing was that Margaret and I went to Monticello, Minnesota, too see the swans. Every year more than a thousand trumpeters trek their way north along the Mississippi River, and every year they stop for [...]
FILIBUSTERS & PIRACY
2010-02-23 10:07:47
There is no room for pirates in the halls of the people. There is no place for governance by piracy in the land of and for the people. And let us all realize there is nothing cute or clever about theft. It is illegal, immoral, and unethical; and it must stop.
ROAD LESS TRAVELED
2010-02-21 13:20:24
Following the path “less traveled by” is the only way to preserve the connection of our actions with our values, the only way to nurture the interests we hold passionately, the only way to be happy. And that, happiness, makes all the difference.
ARRA & MEDICAID
2010-02-17 16:35:13
Almost 20.0 percent of the $787 billion American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) went to healthcare ($147.7 billion of $787.0 billion equals 18.8 percent).
