Happy Friday! Valentine Link up AGAIN!
2012-02-10 07:00:00
Yay! Today is Friday which means it is time for the Happy Friday link up! I decided to run this same link up again this week because there are more and more ideas popping up and I would love to see more in this linky. This week the theme is Valentines! So link up anything that you would give to a valentine! Sweet, savory and anything in-between! Link up anything you already have on your blog, a meal, a dessert, etc. Remember there isn't' a limit on my link up. You can even list a link party, just so it is related to my theme. Here is my Chocolate Chip Pie. Have you ever eaten a Derby Pie from Kentucky? If so we think this taste just like it. We don't get to Kentucky often enough to buy one so this is our best subsitution. It is a very easy recipe with simple ingredients. We usually cut it into bars but for Valentine's Day we decided to use our cookie cutter and make mini heart shaped treats! So easy & cute. Enjoy! I can't wait to see what you link up. I will give Pinterest Pi

What's That Smell? How long does food last?
2012-02-09 14:36:00
Courtesy of www.HellaWella.com. Thanks to HellaWella, the new health website that combines well-informed information with humor and personality for this awesome guide on how long different foods last in the fridge.  When in doubt, check this list. You can find them on Facebook, too!  Go check your fridge and tell me the oldest thing you have in there. I did it and I have a bottle of French's 100% Natural Horseradish Mustard and the exp. date is...gulp.....don't hate me.....Aug 08 2010. I never use this. It belongs to my husband and I JUST threw it out. Yikes.  Thanks for being a friend of Susie QTpies Scraps of Life!

Cooking Healthy Meals with the kids #BensBeginners
2012-02-07 10:39:00
I love being in my kitchen! So much that it is known as Susie's Cafe and I keep our family menu on the wall. The photo of "Please Stay Out Of Mom's Kitchen" is on my fridge but it is far from the truth. I LOVE my little ladies in the kitchen with me. It is so fun to cook up good memories with my girls.  Over the years, I have learned some helpful tips to get the kids involved in the kitchen. This involvement has helped them develop healthy cooking habits.  Get your toddlers their own pots, pans & kitchen tools and have a spot for them in the kitchen. This will give them a chance to feel like they belong early on.  Purchase kid cookbooks. These are great for your little ones to look through. Let them pick a recipe for you to cook together. Do this once a week. If you have more than one child, make a schedule and give them a special day to help. One of our favorite cookbooks for kids is the Gooseberry Patch Kids in the Kitchen cookbook.  G
Fettuccine Alfredo -best ever recipe!
2012-02-07 07:50:00
Ultimate Pasta Comfort Food A popular dish that I make occasionally is Fettuccine Alfredo. I've made it for many years using various recipes. A few years ago our paths crossed with Rich and Kristi Heinz! They both shared this recipe, "Olive Garden Alfredo Sauce" in their 2003 Saint John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Lanesville, Indiana Cookbook. A copy of this book was given to me to help replace my loss of several hundred cookbooks during Hurricane Katrina. One of my favorites is their Alfredo sauce! When we are having a no meat meal this is the first choice! My husband is a meat eater so I have added shrimp and chicken with this meal for those who want it! Alfredo Sauce with Grilled Shrimp and ChickenIngredients 1 pint heavy cream (half & half can be used but not milk)1 stick of butter2 tablespoon cream cheese1/2-3/4 c. Parmesan cheese1 tsp garlic powder or fresh minced garlicsalt & pepper to tasteDirectionsIn saucepan, combine butter, heavy cream & cream

Happy World Nutella Day Recipes #NutellaDay
2012-02-05 08:17:00
I'm a Nutella Nut! Whenever I have an opened jar in the pantry it quickly becomes an empty jar of Nutella. Here is my tasty Nutella Peanut Butter Cookie recipe. I've made it several times and it is a good one.  Here is a recipe for the easiest peanut butter cookie, ever. I usually get about 24 cookies out of a batch. Sometimes I'll toss in chocolate chips into the batter.  Today I decided to toss in Nutella. Yum!  Here are the two recipes: Nutella Peanut Butter Cookies 1 egg 1 cup plus 2-3 Tbsp sugar 3/4 c. Nutella 1/4 c. Peanut Butter Oven 350. Mix ingredients.  Spoon out onto cookie sheet.  Lightly smash down the cookies with forktines, rotate 180 degrees and do it again.  Sprinkle lightly with sugar.   Bake 7-10 minutes (until they are not shiny) Let cool for 1 minute and then put on cooling rack.  My other favorite way to cook with Nutella is to make Nutella Amish Friendship Bread. I submitted thi
