Mophie Juice Pack Reserve
2011-10-02 03:27:00
Mophie is most famous for their Juice Pack Air, a protector/case that also serves as portable battery for an iDevice. The Juice Pack Reserve is also designed to give an iPhone or iPod an extended battery life, but it isn’t a case. It uses a Zippo construction. The “Zippo” is the company’s own words, and it definitely looks like one of those flip-top metal lighters. As you can see, the top flips off to reveal a 30 pin connector. Once this is plugged in, the Apple iDevice user is treated to 700mAh of battery power. That is enough for a quick charge, when you need it, and it is quite light. I’m sure that you can see the keychain ring, showing it is light enough to keep in your pocket or purse with your keys. What you can’t see is that the bottom of unit pops out to reveal a USB plug. This is how you charge its battery, and it is ultra fast. If you want to get one of these, you will have to wait a few days, as the Reserve won’t ship until September 3
Samsung Omnia W offers Windows Phone Mango experience
2011-10-02 03:24:00
Samsung seems to have got their strategy down pat in the world of smartphones – they’re doing gangbusters where the Android scene is concerned, selling more than 10 million units of the Samsung Galaxy S2 to date despite being launched rather recently, and while their own set of bada-powered phones aren’t doing too hot, Samsung still finds the time to support another operating system – Windows Phone, where the latest model to be announced would be the Samsung Omnia W that will be the first Samsung device that runs on Windows Phone Mango, the latest version of Microsoft’s mobile operating system. As with most of the other high end phones from Samsung these days, your eyes will be treated to quite the performance thanks to a vivid Super AMOLED display and overall industrial design, not to mention enjoying enriched content and a social communication experience that is enabled by People Hub. Basically, Samsung is marketing the Omnia W as a different kind of handset which puts peo
Life with the Eco Pod, Rugged All Terrain Speaker Case
2011-10-02 03:22:00
We have reported on the Eco Pod before, and I got a chance to try out the Rugged All Terrain Speaker Case for myself. For those who aren’t familiar with this product, I’m not certain whether “Rugged All Terrain” is an adequate adjective for it. I mean, you can use your mobile device in any terrain where you can get a signal, really. The Eco Pod is designed for those who want to take their iPod, iPhone, or other smartphone in the rugged outdoor conditions of the real world. It is IPX7 certified to stay within 3 feet of water for 30 minutes without any leaks. The Eco Pod includes some IPX7 ear buds so you can listen to your music in watery conditions. The Eco Pod is a polycarbonate case with two reinforced clamps. It has a two inch detachable carbiner clip for travel, as well as a slot to keep it in your belt if you like. Now here is the bad news. When your smartphone or iPod or whatever device is in the unit, you cannot access the touchscreen. In other
Twin defeats spark Democratic fears

Twin defeats spark Democratic fears HOWARD BEACH, N.Y.—The Democratic Party’s rare loss of a congressional seat in its urban heartland Tuesday, accompanied by a blowout defeat in a Nevada special election, marked the latest in a string of demoralizing setbacks that threatened to deepen the party’s crisis of confidence and raise concerns about President Barack Obama’s political fortunes. In New York, Republican Bob Turner soundly defeated Democrat David Weprin in a House contest that — in the view of party leaders, at least — featured an anemic urban machine, distracted labor unions and disloyal voters. In Nevada, a consequential state for the president’s reelection strategy, Democrats suffered a runaway loss rooted in a weak showing in Reno’s Washoe County, a

Designer's line creates Black Friday-like buzz, crashes Target website NEW YORK (AP) -- There's Black Friday, then there's Target Tuesday. In a scene that was reminiscent of the shopping frenzy that typically comes on the day after Thanksgiving, Target's website crashed several times throughout the day and more than hundred shoppers lined up at many of its stores early in the morning on Tuesday for a sale of limited offerings of its Missoni for Target collection of bikes, luggage, clothes and housewares. Justin Bieber Wears Women’s Jeans

Justin Bieber Wears Women’s Jeans Justin Bieber wears what's comfortable -- it's as simple as that. The pop sensation rocked the red carpet at Dolce & Gabbana's Fashion's Night Out event in New York City, where he spoke about his own fashion choices, including women's jeans. Bieber spoke to Life & Style magazine about his affinity for ladies' jeans. "I've worn women's jeans before because they fit me. It's not a trend; it's just, whatever works, works." Again, Justin says this isn't a trend, so if everybody starts wearing Not Your Daughter's Jeans, don't blame him. Bieber was responding to a question about Kanye West's decision to wear a women's sweater. "It wasn't (so he'd) look like a woman in a sweater; it was just a regular sweater that happened to be a woman's." An article from the Yahoo! Contributor Network points out that Justin and Kanye aren't the only male stars to wear women's duds. Actress Liv Tyler has caught her dad, Aerosmith rocker Steven Tyler, wear
Dried Herbs That Aren't Worth It
2011-09-14 12:36:00
One of the most attractive qualities of fresh herbs is their intense fragrance and flavor, especially with just-picked ones. Unfortunately, as the cold weather approaches, snipping some fresh mint and basil leaves from the garden is no longer an option. With that comes the inevitable question: Is it worth buying dried herbs when you don’t have access to fresh ones? Well, it depends. Some herbs work better dried whereas some are definitely not worth your money. Related: Growing Your Own Herbs To figure out which is which, we turned to Bruce Bromberg, owner/chef of Blue Ribbon Sushi Bar & Grill at The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas, who feels very passionately about the subject. What gets him the most? “Dried basil is my number one offender! While the dehydrated versions of rosemary, oregano, and even dill still possess some of their better half's best qualities and characteristics, basil, once dried, misses the mark.” In Pictures: Dried Herbs That Aren't Worth It As
Scientists: Bacteria spreading in warming oceans

Scientists: Bacteria spreading in warming oceans BRUSSELS (AP) — Warning: The warming of the world's oceans can cause serious illness and may cost millions of euros (dollars) in health care. That is the alarm sounded in a paper released online Tuesday on the eve of a two-day conference in Brussels. The 200-page paper is a synthesis of the findings of more than 100 projects funded by the European Union since 1998. It was produced by Project CLAMER, a collaboration of 17 European marine institutes. The paper says the rising temperature of ocean water is causing a proliferation of the Vibrio genus of bacteria, which can cause food poisoning, serious gastroenteritis, septicemia and cholera. "Millions of euros in health costs may result from human consumption of contaminated seafood, ingestion of waterborne pathogens, and, to a lesser degree, though direct occupational or recreational exposure to marine disease," says the paper. "Climatic conditions are playing an increasin
