Even Cheap Blinds Will Save Energy
2010-04-08 07:07:00
If you are looking to save on energy costs in your home one of the best tips out there is to get your windows covered. This can keep drafts from entering the home and causing a temperature difference. There are many items you can get to cover your windows with, but to save energy they do not have to be energy-saving drapes. Anything covering your Windows will make a difference with drafts in the home.
Simple wood blinds are a more expensive option but they look great and will keep drafts from entering the home for the most part. Wood blinds paired with drapes that completely cover the windows will be your most energy efficient option, but will also cost you the most money. Especially, if the drapes are lined with a backing that is designed to keep heat and drafts from entering the home, such as a thermal lining.
A popular choice is faux wood blinds. These are inexpensive and look almost just as great as real wood blinds. These by themselves will definitely cut down on energy loss thr
Wood Pellets - Cut Logs, Save Money
2010-04-06 07:46:00
Wood pellets are a must for homeowners using free-standing fireplaces or stoves in their homes, and also for some that use built-in fireplaces. These pellets are made of a combination of wood scraps, sawdust, and shavings - making them a more environmentally friendly option than buying logs.
These pellets are also extremely affordable. Often one can find a 40lb bag for only a few dollars, especially online. This is much more affordable than buying logs to burn. This sounds like a steal, but there are some things to keep in mind before running out and purchasing a wood burning stove or free-standing fireplace.
The first thing you need to be sure to remember is that one of these heating elements can often only heat one room. This is great for someone who is single or a small family, but for large families or homes it may not be a huge help. Combined with the fact that they can not be moved from one room to the other, and you have one warm room and a lot of other cold r
Solar Power For Homes - Our Future?
2010-02-03 05:35:00
Solar power for homes is becoming more popular each year. As the cost of production decreases it is becoming an affordable alternative for many homeowners. The government increases this possibility with the tax rebates it offers to those who choose to go green.
Solar power for homes is also good for the environment, since it does not contribute any green house gases. Just the use of solar power to heat our water can reduce tons of carbon dioxide from being released into the atmosphere. High CO2 levels can kill most life forms. It is predicted that the level needed to eradicate the human race will be reached in less than fifty years!
Solar power for homes is being encouraged by local governments; in 2007 California launched the nations' largest solar energy campaign which is projected to save many jobs and push solar energy for homes ahead. Even the Pope is going "green" and using solar energy! He installed solar panels on the roof of the Vatican. This will offset 210 tons of carbon d
Sure-Fire Ways To Make Your Home More Energy-Efficient
2010-01-22 04:53:00
Along with the economy, global warming is definitely today's hot topic all across the nation. It's hard to believe that any one of us can possibly make a difference in reducing energy usage and helping to clean up our planet. However, when everyone tries to do his part, there is power and influence in the collective. A concern for the environment is not the only reason for making our homes more energy-efficient: updating our houses will also save a lot of money over the long term. Here are sure-fire ways to make your home more energy-efficient.
Replacement Windows
Even if you never open your windows, they may be causing money to fly out of your home. Why? Old windows may keep out the rain, but they do very little to keep the heat from the sun out or the heat from your furnace in. Energy-efficient replacement windows are double-paned and contain a layer of argon gas that serves as an insulator. Once installed, replacement windows can save homeowners as much as 47 percent on their uti
Estate Agents NetMovers, 'Go Green'
2010-01-19 13:40:00
Property portal NetMovers is the first property website to offer house search facilities based on energy efficiency.
NetMovers will launch the facility by the end of February 2010 and are currently comparing the Energy Performance Certificates of all properties on its site. Property will be listed using an 'Energy Rating' from 'A' to 'G', and also a corresponding colour from green to red.
Rick Jones, Operations and Development Executive of NetMovers said: "We choose everyday objects for their energy rating such as light bulbs or washing machines, hoping to save a few pence as well as the environment."
"So we believe our users should have the opportunity to view property by its efficiency. It is our individual responsibility to do everything within our power to reduce our contribution to global warming, but at the end of the day the facility will be there for people to use and we will see if it is popular or not."
As the fastest growing online property portal, NetMovers are hopi

Eco Begins at Home
2009-12-10 04:59:00
Green, it seems, is the new black. We are slowly beginning to eat, sleep and even build green, with the One Brighton initiative well under-way launching an eco-friendly lifestyle along with sustainable accommodation. We can travel to work on “Big Lemon” buses that run on vegetable oil and can even choose to be buried in biodegradable coffins; but some times it’s the small things that make the difference… Unfortunately not all of us can afford the cost of swapping our Fiat Bravo for the new Eco-Bravo; and many of us are challenged to find the time to clean, let alone the time to make our own green cleaning supplies as one “be-green” article suggests. But you can still do your bit. Eco-friendly living is becoming paramount as “ecoanxiety” creeps into our culture. This could b
Contemporary Furniture Eco Retailers - Where To Find Them
2009-12-04 11:11:00
The Retail revolution. Where to buy eco design for your home.Eco homewares and contemporary eco furniture are becoming increasingly mainstream as a new breed of independent online retailers champion green design. The signs are that eco homewares and furniture are set to enter the mainstream as ethical consumer spending soars (up 11% says The Co-operative). Oliver Heath, of Changing Rooms fame, certainly thinks so, claiming, dramatically, 'This will be the industrial revolution of our time'.His impassioned belief that sustainable and recycled, design-led products - categorized by his EcoCentric online venture as 'urban eco chic' - are challenging the pile-it-high-sell-it-cheap approach of the high street, is certainly ethically compelling.Eco chic is not new it has to be said. But witty and
