LEGENDS OF THE CIVIL WAR #2975 Pane of 20 x 32¢ US Postage Stamps

The release of the 20 Civil War stamps in 1995, marked the most extensive effort in the history of the U.S. Postal Service to review and verify the historical accuracy of stamp subjects. Each of the 16 individuals and four battles featured were chosen from a master list of 50 subjects, which included Presidents, generals, major battles, rank-and-file soldiers, women, African and Native Americans, and abolitionists. The goal of the U.S.P.S. was to show the wide variety of people who participated in the Civil War Those prepresenting the Union were: Abraham Lincoln, America's 26th President; Lieutenant General Ulysses S. Grant; Major General William Tecumseh Sherman; Major General Winfield Scott Hancock; Vice Admiral David Glasgow Farragut; Clara Harlowe Barton, volunteer nurse and founder of

1994 NORMAN ROCKWELL #2840 Souvenir Sheet of 4 x 50 cents US Postage Stamps

Issued on July 1, 1994 in Stockbridge, MA., this Souvenir Sheet of four 50 cent stamps honor Norman Rockwell centennial of his birth. On January 6, 1941, as World War II raged in Europe, President Franklin Delano Roosevelt addressed Congress. He submitted that any settlement reached after the war should be based upon "four freedoms": freedom of speech, freedom of worship, freedom from want, and freedom from fear. Norman Rockwell created four paintings, each titled after one of the freedoms, that visually idealize the concepts of Roosevelt's speech. More than one million people saw the paintings on a 16-city tour to promote war-bonds. The tour was a tremendous success, and over $130 million was raised for the cause. Rockwell's "Triple Self-Portrait" is a wonderful example of the good-nature

Trans-Mississippi Exposition - On June 18 1998 in Anaheim, CA the USPS celebrated the 100 anniversary of the Trans-Mississippi Exposition that was held in June 1 through November 1, 1898. Its goal was to further the progress and development of resources west of the Mississippi. To publicize this event, a set of nine commemorative stamps was issued. Each was printed in a single color and featured an engraving depicting a different western scene. One of these stamps, Western Cattle in Storm, is still considered one of the most beautiful, finely engraved stamps ever issued. One hundred years after this event, the U.S. Postal Service reissued these exquisite stamps in two different panes of nine.
